Swine flu has occurred as an epidemic in the year 2009 and affected many parts of the world. The disease is transferred from one person to the other through air or particulate material. The flu is known as swine flu because the disease came to humans from pigs. The virus contains genes that are found in pigs, birds and human flu viruses. Recently the letter s has been removed by CDC from the word swine flu and it is renamed as A (h1n1). The number of cases of swine flu kept on increasing in the year 2009 and till the middle of the December 2009 29,669 cases of swine flu are reported in the 74 nations. The number of deaths from swine flu has crossed 145 according to the report presented by world health organization.

Understanding the swine flu cause of death

Many people wonder is swine flu cause of death or not? Swine flu is similar to seasonal flu in its behavior. The swine flu virus enters in the human body through nose and mouth and attacks the cells of respiratory tract present in nose, throat and lungs. The virus is injurious to the respiratory tract cells and causes the immune system to react through response of white blood cells and cytokines; however this reaction may block lungs and bronchioles causing damage to lungs. The activity of cytokine within respiratory tract results in flu like symptoms such as fever, exhaustion, chills, loss of appetite, cough etc. In severe cases of influenza one can have pneumonia, if left untreated. In some cases of influenza the infectious microbes also rise through damaged respiratory tissue and causes secondary infection resulting into bacterial pneumonia. So not only swine flu but any flu can result take us to death. As swine flu is new and can infect anyone so it has become dangerous for the people. There is also lack of understanding related to swine flu so it creates panic in the minds of people. Survey shows the death from common seasonal flu is always more than that from swine flu.

The other reason behind swine flu cause of death is presence of any chronic diseases such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease etc. A person suffering from any of the chronic disease has marked reduced immunity and gets infected with the h1n1 virus easily. These people often do not survive and die due to swine flu. In the year 2009 most of the people admitted for swine flu treatment were found to have some form of a chronic disease.

One of the reasons of swine flu cause of death can be the viral sickness which can occur with the outbreak of swine flu and spread among the people. This viral sickness adds extra load on the human body systems with swine flu virus and may lead the sufferer to death. Due to all these reasons swine flu is though to be cause of death, though statistics prove that death rate of seasonal flu is more in comparison to swine flu every year.
